Kaso Jogi - The GATE
Right before the Edinburgh Festival Fringe!

“Pass through, pass through…”
A gate suddenly appears in the theatre.
Who guards it? It could be a demon, an angel, the boatman of Hades, or the guardian of hell’s gate. Take a journey through time to the last scene, with memories of the womb to help find the way. This is the first installment in the Kaso Jogi Nursery Rhyme Collection, a series of original and dark musicals based on traditional Japanese nursery rhymes. International premiere. Runtime: 45 minutes
Performed in Japanese with English subtitles.

Member of Ryuzanji Company from 1990 to 2014.
Left the company to establish Kaso Jogi.
In addition to acting, she has shifted to directing in recent years, doing all the art direction, design, makeup, and choreography for the works she directs.
Her specialty is musicals that use music that comes from the bodies of the actors.
Works directed by Aoki have been well-received internationally, winning awards such as the

(Composer and Musical Director)
Born in Tokyo in 1967
Began working as a composer for the stage in 1990.
Major collaborations have included work with directors such as LaSalle Ishii, Tengai Amano, Sho Ryuzanji, and more. Honda has composed all the music for Saori Aoki-directed plays including “Hanafuda Denki” and “Iroshima”, and his characteristic melodies hold a mysterious charm. His style often includes playing music directly on stage, and he incorporates traditional Japanese instruments as well as unique handmade instruments, which he plays on stage as a part of the performance.
